Question

New to bbt charting, lots of probably stupid questions!

So after some thought, I decided to start bbt charting. Avoided it in the past because I didn't get it completely. So this is just to get things straight. So, you take temp with basal thermometer (just got one) every morning, at the same time before u do ANYTHING. You put it in here or on chart (this sight tracks for you). When you ovulate, the temp goes down and that's the cover line? Then after you o the temp goes up and that would be your luteal phase? At implantation you will sometimes see a dip then if pregnant the temp goes up to the highest that month? If not pregnant it goes down around your period? Nosl cycles are biphasic which means there is a visible difference between before o temps and after, right? And triphasic means there is a second shift at implantion and temps go up again, right? Anything else I should know? Am I understanding this right?

Take ur temp at the same time, place (side if oral). The temp may go down on the day of ovulation, but it doesnt always do this for everyone. The coverline is usually .1 degree F above the highest temp of the previous 6 temps before ov. Ur temp usually starts to rise the day after ovulation. From 1dpo (the day after ov) til the day before u have a flow (not spotting), is ur luteal phase length. Temps usually dip anywhere from 4-10dpo, this doesnt mean its implantation becuz u also have a surge of estrogen in that timeframe, and that surge makes temps dip, also gives fertile cm. If ur not preg, ur temp could start to drop slowly a few days before AF, it could drop drastically before or day of AF, or it may not drop til AF is already here...that's different for everyone. Triphasic is a third rise in temps, could mean pregnancy, could mean nothing. U've got ur info down pretty good. Make sure room temp and pjs stay the same-ish, and if ur a mouth breather, temp vaginally. Good luck! =))

Taking temp that way just seems...weird to me. Should I maybe try orally the first month and see how it goes and if temps erratic maybe change to vaginally?

Yeah Im not keen on the vag temping either...as long as u try to keep as much the same as u possibly can, mouth breathing will def alter the temps, but not make detecting O impossible...it will show as an inaccurate temp but if u mouth breathe daily, then it becomes an accurate inaccurate temp. I did a whole 41 days cycle with a dying thermometer, when ur temp rises, it still catches it, just not at the right degree lol. No biggie, try oral, u should be ok.

Just a little tip... Put the thermometer where it's easy to reach. When I first started temping, I lost a few random days b/c I dropped it on the floor and had to get out of bed. :/

Ok I don't know why but the cover line thing is confusing me...

The cover line just gives u a visual for before and after ov. Ur temps should stay mainly above cover line to show a clear shift. I've dipped below cover line at 6, 7, or 8dpo on random cycles and have yet to be pregnant. For some, this has proven to be their day of implantation. Good luck to u!!!! ;)
