Question

Clomid instructions?? need that BFP! :)

Been VERY patiently waiting for AF to arive so i can start my first cycle of Clomid, AF finally arrived today after 50 days of anxious waiting!
My doctor said to start taking them on cycle day 4, but didnt really say anything else, like, when to start testing for ovulation or when to start BD...my cycles arent what you'd call regular & im so confused!
can anyone help? i would love to also hear your success stories with clomid, how long it took to achieve that BFP, the negative sides to it...etc.
all feedback would be greatly appreciated!! :)
thanks!! xo

50 days, yikes! Welcome to the world of Clomid. :) It's pretty easy. I take before bed. The big thing is just don't forget to take. How many mg are you on? I was fine on 50 but I went to 150 and I'm in the 2% that gets the "strobe light" effect. I freaked out the first time as I didn't realize it was due to the Clomid. Everything streams when I move my eyes but it only does it for a few minutes when I get up.

Anyway, if it doesn't work, you can up the dose and later, if necessary, ask for a trigger shot. Those can be dangerous as they release all mature eggs and if you're young with two working ovaries, that can easily result in twins or more.

My point is, don't get discouraged if it doesn't work right away as there are many levels of progression and one should work for you. :)

Take it for 5 days. DO NOT test right away. Clomid will give you positive OPKs. Wait until day 10 to test and test every day until you get your +.

If you're taking Clomid, your doctor should be monitoring you closely. Clomid can cause thin uterine lining, ruptured ovuaries, over-stimulated follicles, etc. If you're not being closely monitored with both bloodwork and ultrasounds, you need to request this. Too many doctors these days are so quick to give patients Clomid and send them on their way. Also, Clomid can only be taken a total of 6 cycles in your lifetime...so please, please be careful!
To answer you questions, you should take it the same time everyday for 5 days. It can make you dizzy and tired, so taking before bed is recommended. If you're being monitored, your doctor would tell you when you're going to ovulate and when to test. Anyhow, Clomid can make someone with longer cycle to ovulate earlier in their cycle (not always, but most of the time)...so I would start testing with OPK's at around CD12. Bbt charting would be helpful too. GL and please discuss the monitoring with your OB...it's important!

I don't think that "6x" is a hard and fast rule. Just read where someone was on her 7th round of 200mg! It's got to be easier on your body than the Gonal. That one definitely needs to be monitored. My Dr. prescribed Clomid and never asked to see me to monitor it. My new doc is monitoring me as we're triggering each cycle. Next cycle I will move on to Gonal.

It's true you don't want to pump your body full of more meds than you need, but seems some Drs. don't limit it to 6x. Will see my Dr. tonight and ask him what he thinks.

he said he is going to see me in the office after my first round, ive just had all the nessesary tests, blood work, ultrasounds and a HSG. Been on Metformin 2000mg for almost 3 years, but nothing but one chemical pregnancy so far. i believe between my husbands 50% motility & my PCOS, is probably the reason im starting at 100mg. just wish it wasnt such an "in and out" process at the dr.s, felt a bit rushed, like i should just "know" what to do lol.

Socigirl, if a doctor gives any woman fertility medication and doesn't monitor her...he's not being a very good doctor. Do you have any idea what Clomid can do to a woman's uterine lining? There have been many women who have taken too many rounds of Clomid and their uterine lining got so thin as a result...making them infertile. Clomid can cause follicles to grow so large, they can burst and cause damage to the ovary...and worst case scenario...surgery because of pain and bleeding. To many doses of Clomid can cause cancer...this is why it should be limited as well. I'm not feeding Liams_Mommy a bunch of BS...I'm trying to warn her. I've been seeing an RE for almost three years and have done my research. Just passing on the information.

Just reading some comments about Clomid and someone's RE said a year is fine as long as your lining is good. I take progesterone as well to build up my lining so it shouldn't be a factor. But all these meds are a concern to me and hope I only need to do it a few more rounds.

Liams_mommy, yeah, w/ my IVF doc, I felt like I was in a processing plant. My new doc is so nice. I can call him on his cell and he answers all my questions and I ask for an appt. and he sees me right away. And he's so reasonable - 50euros/ visit with an ultrasound. For that, I'd go to him once I week. ;)

Sorry to hear you've only had one chemical pg out of all that. The IVF seemed to kickstart my body and I'm getting pg pretty easily now. Just not sure if I have any good eggs left.

Next time you go to your Dr., ask him/her about a trigger as well. If you have all those issues, you may need that extra step. Such a learning process. I'm still trying to figure it all out...

thanks! i def. will! hoping just this round does the trick, started Metformin in 2008, took it one cycle and BOOM i was pregnant! dont know what has happened in the last 3 years since my son was born, maybe i became immune to Met? just dont know? the problem is, i just dont know when i ovulate. my cycles are anywhere from 30-50 days, never the same. ive only used ovulation strips once, not really sure if i did it right...

liams_mommy- take my advice for what it is worth. I'm only trying to inform of what could happen with Clomid and wouldn't want it to cause any further issues with your fertility. I'm the type of person who researches meds before I take them. I like to be well informed. I also have PCOS and long, irregular cycles. I have found that bbt charting helps tremendously when pinpointing ovulation. Also, if you've been seeing a regular OB for 3 years and have not had success, I would recommend seeing an RE...a specialist in fertility. Wishing you all the best and hope that you will get your take home baby soon. :)
