Question

TTC First Cycle After Miscarriage and Breastfeeding

Hi, ladies! I had a miscarriage on Friday, December 13. Gestationally, 10w2d, baby stopped growing at 8w1d CD 1 would be Thursday, December 14. I didn't ovulate until maybe Sunday, January 5. So I'm wondering if my luteal phase will just be too short to sustain a pregnancy and my period will start or if anyone has experience of a cycle of a miscarriage with a later ovulation and then the cycle being longer. Since I breastfeed, I typically ovulate a bit later anyway, but this was substantially later.

History - three miscarriages from 2013 and 2014, live births in 2016 and 2018, and miscarriage in 2019.

Thank you ladies!

Hi there. First off, I'm so sorry for your loss.

Everyone loses hcg at different speeds. For myself after my loss at 7 weeks, it took about 60 days to return to 0. I've seen longer and shorter.

Once hcg is at 0, you essentially start a new cycle. So as long as you got back to 0 everything in your body is status quo for TTC.

Did you confirm your ovulation with an OPK or by temping? Generally speaking you are more fertile after a loss.

There is no medical reason to wait one cycle as sometimes recommended. Your loss should not effect your luteal length etc. The reason most doctors say to wait is purely so they can time you're pregnancy easier.

So if you ovulated then your chances are the same as any other month for a healthy pregnancy.

If it helps, I just had my baby in October. I had a third loss on December 29th 2018. I never got my period, but ovulated on Jan 12 and got pregnant. Everything went smoothly.

Best of luck

Sorry for your loss as well.

I've been concerned of the same thing...I too had a MC but only at almost 7 weeks. We had caught the egg 2nd cycle PP (BFing as well) my first luteal phase was 8 days so I'm sure my second wasn't going to be too much better and maybe that contributed to my MC, but we (weren't told till it was too late) got pregnant before getting first AF and while I'm only 19 dpo, I can tell my hormones are working better this time around. I knew my progesterone was kicking after ovulation pretty quickly so for me, the MC reset my cycle as I'm still BFing now as well. I know it's different for everyone but it seems things work better after MC. If I end up MCing again, it probably won't have to do with my hormones. GL to you
Just out of curiosity how long PP were you when you conceived again (I was almost a year which might make a difference as well)

@LadyMae - my doctor watched my HCG down to 7.2, and I stopped getting positives, so I know it went down to 0. Yes, I got a positive OPK on CD like 24 and 25. Today is CD 33. Typically my cycles are like 28-ish days. So maybe my luteal phase won't be super short and I will have a chance to conceive. Should know in a couple of days!

@Angela18... my son just turned two in January, and we got pregnant in October. So, a little under two years PP.
