First fertility appointment
Morning Ladies,
I don’t need really know what to write but I need to write something to ease my heartbreak a little bit at least.
Following our appointment today, the quantity and quality of partners sperm means that the only possible way of conceiving would be through IVF.
Because I already have a son from a previous relationship, the IVF we require would not be funded by the NHS. (I feel incredibly ungrateful and selfish saying this, as I should be grateful I already have one child)!.
My heart is broken, because there is absolutely no chance for us finding the money needed for IVF.
They want me to have a scan, blood tests on day 3-4 of period and again on cycle day 23. I figure this is for hormones.
They also want him to have another sperm sample done to see if anything has improved.
As well as another appointment with fertility team again in 7 weeks with all of these results.
I am currently inconsolable, I cried all the way home and haven’t stopped since. I’m so sad and heartbroken, because he longs to be a Father & I promised him we would get there in the end.
I’ve tried so hard through everything to stay positive and hopeful, and now I’ve just crashed.
I’m not looking for any sympathy or whatever, I just needed to vent a little here, so it’s not reflected on him when he gets home.
I hope everyone is well, and I send babydust and sticky vibes.
Xx

Hi this is the same as me and my husband i cried the moment they told us the only way forward is ivf due to his low counts. We already have 1 son together whos 8 and we only had this test done in jan so i know even with a low count it can still happen... i gave myself a few days to cry for what may never happen again...i do feel more positive about the situation as even with low count it can still happen x

Before my hubby and I had our first child together he told me he didn’t think he could have any... so we agreed we would try and we would also be interested in adoption. We got married and as soon as we did we of course started the bd thing .... he also was seen by a doctor shortly after to check his counts and they told him they would have his results in soon ...we got the results maybe a week or two later ... saying basically his level was so low it was almost gonna be impossible... well a few days after we got those Results I took a pregnancy test and yes I was already
Pregnant! We went on to have more children as
Well. So nothing is always 100% .... I would keep trying anyway and see what other options could be looked into. We didn’t use anything special (I did use ovulation kit the next pregnancy to know what days were the best to try and of course after bd I would wait awhile before pottying (tmi sorry) but no medical stuff and we conceived naturally... I know that’s not the case for all but don’t feel defeated just yet

Thankyou so much everyone for your replies, it does mean a lot and I do feel a lot more positive. I think I just had a tiny little breakdown but I’m feeling more positive now.
We’ve been trying for 19months now, I’ve always been 50/50 if it will happen naturally or if we would need help, so it was a very big shock.
The Fertility specialist did say that IVF would be best for a ‘fast conception’. So, at the moment we’re going to carry on with everything that they require: bloods, scan, sperm test and appointments and see where we’re at. OH is still taking Vitamen Fertility vitamins too. He started these around 6months ago, and we haven’t had a sperm analysis since starting these, so hopefully there’ll at least be a small difference in count and mobility/progression etc.
In the meantime I guess it will be a waiting game, it’s just trying to relay that onto OH because he’s upset too (understandable).
Thankyou again everyone, you really have helped and I’m so grateful for everyone that commented. Xx
