Question

Letrozole/Femara/Time to change dr?

I'm feeling like I need a second opinion or different gynecologist. I read on forums and online about how your gynecologist/obgyn will do ultasounds to check on your follicles, ovaries, to see when and if you ovulated. Mines seems to just be a pill pusher. I started off on Clomid and he upped me each cycle without checking anything other than just seeing if I'm pregnant or not. Everytime the pregnancy test was negative and he just upped the mg's. Maybe I'm reading too much into this but he's never even officially checked or asked me if I atleast ovulated. He's never told me to buy opk's. I already knew to get them and how to use them myself. He did a pregnancy test on last cycle and when it was negative just changed meds. Even though I did ovulate on Clomid according to my opk. Second opinion/change doctors or...?

How long have you been trying? Why not switch to a RE instead of OBGYN? They will monitor you much more than a regular OBGYN.

BFP 10/17, MMC - 11/17, IUI#1 - 4/18 BFN, IUI#2 - 5/18 BFN, IVF#1 - 6/18

OB's can prescribe clomid like it's candy and the risk of hyperovulation (why they would monitor you) is low. However, after about 3 months, they say you should stop and take a break because it thins your lining. Femara worked better for me, but my OB won't prescribe it because it needs monitoring with ultrasounds to see if it's working and to make sure it's not working too well (hyperovulation) - which is an RE's function, not an OB. Check with your insurance. They MIGHT cover the meds and the ultrasounds and the visits, but just not any IUIs or IVF. My first insurance did, and I only had to pay 20%, but my second insurance after I changed jobs did NOT, and they wouldn't cover ANYTHING. So find out - you might have more options than you think, especially if your OB will refer you.

Just depends on the ob/gun
My dr. gave me clomid and didn't do ultrasounds either. He did do ultrasounds when we did an IUI for timing purposes. I would always ask to do a progesterone test to see where my numbers were to see if I ovulated and of it was where it needed to be. I too would see if my insurance covered a specialist, and go from there.
