43 TTC any advice

Hi ladies,

Short story tubal reversal August 16, fell pregnant a few weeks later the miscarried. Just wanted some advice on supplements, taking royal jelly, evelit, folic acid and fish oil. I am thinking about trying Vitex, cycle is from 26 days to 28 days, ovulation around 13 to 15 days, had bloods done AMH is 17.8 FSH and LH both 5, can't get any help from Fertility clinic as they have said I am to old, so any advice would be appreciated. I know I am old but feeling quite down about all the negativity I seem to get when asking for help.

Hi there

I'm 42 (43 in April) and recently conceived naturally and am now 12 weeks pregnant. We started trying last July. I had a miscarriage in Oct 2015 and didn't see another positive until Aug 16 which ended in a chemical pregnancy. I ended up seeing a fertility specialist with my husband in Sept 2016. I had my CD 3 bloods done, not sure what my FSH or LH were (apparently ok for my age) but my AMH was only 10 I think. My DH's sperm analysis was good.
I was only taking folic acid at the time.

The fertility specialist suggested doing 4 - 6 medicated cycles to enhance ovulation. She also suggested we BD everyday from CD 9 - CD 15. We actually didn't end up doing any medicated cycles and just BD'ed CD 10 - CD14 and ended up pregnant first try!

Good luck and don't be discouraged as my friend who's recently turned 44 just conceived naturally after having 3 miscarriages in the last year. She's now 8 weeks and has seen a healthy heartbeat on her scan. She did the BD'ing from CD 10 - CD15 and it worked for her too

Thank you AnnabelleT, first positive thing I have heard for a while, congrats on your BFP that is so wonderful, I will take your advice and BD on those days as well. Fertility clinic isn't even happy to help with medication as they say I already ovulate so BD'ing it is, would love to prove them wrong. I have read so many women in there 40's do conceive but mostly with help, I am ok about it not happening but to be constantly told that I am to old is something I do not want to hear, I know I am not young but I don't class myself as over the hills yet. I wish you a happy and healthy 9 months sweetheart and thank you again you have put a smile on my face.

You're so welcome! You're definitely not over the hill yet and still have lots of pregnancy potential. Sometimes it just takes us a little longer to conceive at our age but I've read lots of successful stories about women in their early 40's to mid 40's conceiving.
My fertility specialist said it's just really important to have plenty of sperm waiting for there for the egg to be released hence the BDing 7 days straight due to the life span of the egg only really being 12 -24 hours tops, where sperm can live up to 5 days in a cervix.
The great thing is you're definitely ovulating.
Fertility treatments in New Zealand aren't publically funded once you're over 40, which was kind of why we decided to keep trying naturally for a little longer.
All the very best of luck for your conceiving journey

Hi Twinsa that is fantastic news congrats, was in natural conception? and if so was there any vitamins you took to improve anything? I so wish you a healthy 9 months and that this baby sticks. Both you ladies have given me some hope that I may conceive, think I need to reassess my stress factor because I feel I am running out of time this TTC is pretty much taking over everything, I only have 1 tube and hubby is not always home as he works away so we have to work around trying when he's home 50% of the time he is away. I am asking him to take holidays so we can try for the full whole month. Anyway thank you again you have restored some faith xxxx
