Question, how 2 determine when cycle actually starts and end

I know this may sound silly, but I have been ttc a long time now (almost 2 years) and I have seen so many posts about when to actually count the start of your cycle. Is it supposed to be the first day you see blood or is it the first day you have a full flow. Also I will have 1 day of light bleeding, 2nd day is a normal flow, 3rd day is light. The next day nothing. The following day I see brown blood (old blood). So am I supposed to count all 5 of those days as a 5 day cycle or a 3 day cycle?? I am only asking b/c maybe I am counting the days wrong thus miscalculating my O date. Please Help.

U start ur cycle on the first day of flow, not spotting. So as long as the light flow isnt spotting, then thats cd1. The end of the cycle is the day before u see flow again. To have a more accurate date for O, u would need to track cm and/or use opks to foresee it, as well as be taking ur temps daily to confirm if/when it happened. Thats the best way, otherwise theres quite a difference in the potential days it could be and its easy to miscalcualte it.

Good luck! =))
