Low Morphology, Time to Ask for Advice...

So this is our 8th month TTC, which I know is not that long compared to some, but as anyone who's had issued TTC knows, it seems like an eternity. At six months DH and I decided to see the doctor because my ovulations seemed normal, so we wanted to see what was going on. We decided to do the SA first since it was the simplest test to do, and the next day we received some devastating news from the doctor. DH had a great sperm count (289 million)and great motility (136 million), but his morphology was 0%, plus he had a lot of immature sperm cells which was unusual. The doctor told us our only option was IVF. My heart dropped. But then she said she was getting a call from one of her reproductive specialist friends and asked me to hold. I sat on the silent line for five minutes, trying not to completely loose it. When she came back on the line she said that it had been discovered in a recent study that this can be caused by a prior infection that may have caused inflammation, and that taking this really strong antibiotic can actually improve results. She prescribedit for us and my poor husband suffered through terrible stomach aches and frequent trips to the bathroom for two weeks.

We're still waiting to do the follow up semen analysis to see if it worked, but I'm feeling hopeful. The doctor told us to do it 4-6 weeks after he completed the two week round of antibiotics, but at most that's 8 weeks and I've read that it takes sperm 75 days to completely mature and regenerate so I think we should wait till January. In the mean time, I've got DH taking a multivitamin, folic acid, vitamin d, a b complex, vitamin c and fish oil because I've read all of these can help. Can't hurt right? He's not a big drinker, he doesn't smoke, he's physically active and is pretty healthy in general.

My question is, has anyone else gone through this same thing and what was your outcome? How long did you wait between semen analysis, and has anybody found any vitamins or supplements that have helped with this issue? Sorry for the long post, but this is kind of the first time I've reached out. We're actively trying again this month after a month off, and we're praying for a Christmas miracle. Thanks for any advice or support. Maybe I can be there for someone going through the same thing too! Good luck ladies!

Got CD3 blood work back today and it was great. Have HSG tomorrow. Hoping everything is good with that so we only have this one obstacle to overcome....

Ok, for anyone who's reading this, this is my last update till DH does his follow up SA in January. I had my HSG done today. It wasn't nearly as bad as I was worrying it would be. I had read too many stories on Google about excruciating pain but I didn't really have any pain. Lots of pressure, a little cramping when the dye goes in and that's it. Everything looked good and my tubes were totally clear. I'm very happy about this, but I don't want to make DH feel bad because everything has come back clear on me. I am relieved though that it seems to be just the one issue, because that gives me hope. I'm praying for a bfp for Christmas. That's the day AF is expected, so fingers crossed I won't see her for a while.

I hope this post has helped someone or given someone else some hope. I will update again when we get the next results back. Baby dust!
