Male factor infertility

Hello, we are TTC for a year now. I know that this is not a very long time, but in November last year we were diagnosed with MFI, so it may take a while longer (hopefuly not that long). I was wandering if anyone who is "in the same boat" have any suggestions. I will be glad if I can hear some success stories too. We did our first IUI a day ago, so I am hoping for a BFP, even though I know that the chance of conceiving is very low. Well, I guess you never know, we need only one sperm after all.
A lot of baby dust to all of you!

I am in the same boat. My dh and I have been trying to conceive for a year and found out that we have MFI. What type of MFI do you have? My dh has poor sperm morphology. He has only had between 1% - 3% normal sperm every time we have tested. Sorry I can't give you a success story yet but it is nice to know other people are in the same boat.

We did our first IUI last month unmedicated with no luck. We have our second IUI this Sunday. We did Injectibles with a trigger shot. Hopefully this will work! I think we are going to try a few cycle of meds before moving on to IVF with ICSI. Really don't want to have to do IVF, as it is so expensive!.

Good luck to you!!

Hey all,

I'm also right there with you guys. My DH also has poor morphology, 1% normal.

I can give you one success story...we have a DD who was conceived naturally after 26 cycles. We did have a S/A that showed he had 6% normal just prior to finding out we were naturally pregnant.

Since then, however, we've been trying for #2 unsuccessfully for 5.5 years. We've done 3 IUI's, one unmedicated, one with clomid and OPK's and one with clomid and U/S monitoring. No success yet.

Our last shot is this cycle. After that we will move on to mini IVF.

Good Luck to all!

My husband got an analysis and the results were... disappointing...

His count was low, there was poor morphology, and poor motility.

On top of my issues with PCOS, this news was quite discouraging...

I'm sorry catnip. That news is always hard to take. The best thing I can suggest is to get him on some good vitamins and herbal supplements. It seemed to work for my DH. Good luck!

I am in the same boat as you ladies except that my SO just has a lower sperm count, so the fertility specialists have put him onto clomid to up his count and better our chances of conceiving. I hope it works!!!

We're also dealing with MFI - low count, low pretty much everything else too. Doc (urologist, supposedly the expert in our state) said it was a pituitary issue and put him on Clomid. 6 months later, still no improvement. We did see a little improvement from vitamins & exercise prior to Clomid (from 10 to 12 million, maybe), but with the clomid it just went down from there (around 8 million), even with vitamins, very good food, and regular exercise, still no improvement.

Just wanted to put that out there that Clomid is not a miracle drug and doctors don't know much about how to help MFI. Just being realistic. There's barely any clinical trial data to support it.

We've moved on to acupuncture because I don't see any reason for me to inject myself with hormones when I don't have a hormone imbalance. Just doesn't seem good for the eggs. So he's getting acupuncture. There's actually a lot of good evidence for it helping count & motility, so look into it. It's also way cheaper than IUIs, which are not in our budget right now.

Hey all,

My success story unfortunately ended sadly, with the embryo having implanted in my right fallopian. I lost both the baby and the tube at 6 weeks gestation.

On the positive side, we are trying again with more IUI's and I've kept my DH taking the regime of vitamins I have had him on. This time last year his total sperm count was only 29 million. Then it went up to 69 million, and then by our fourth IUI it was 93 million. At our last IUI, his total sperm count was 153 million!

His morphology hasn't changed very much, up to the last IUI it had been consistently 1% normal. The last one it was 2% normal. That IUI failed, but we will be doing our next one next week.

I will post again with his total count.
