I've been trying for 3 years and discovered I have Hashimoto's 2 years ago. I was immediately put on medication when my level was 3.24 although my endocrinologist said if I wasn't trying to conceive, he wouldn't start me on medication yet. I would say finish the cycle and then speak with your doctor about starting medication. I've had good luck with medication BUT I have continued to go from normal TSH (for TTC which is between 1-2) to elevated even with medication and from what I understand this can happen a lot with Hashimoto's patients. I've had to increase my dose to keep my TSH at a good level. I should also mention I have never been pregnant even when my TSH was perfect. But I also didn't really try as much during that time and definitely a lack of being intimate didn't help. I think for most women who have thyroid issues causing infertility, once they start medication and get their TSH between 1-2, pregnancy is easily achieved.

I faxed my results to my doctor who told me that my TSH wasn't as high as Nov2012, when I last tested at my dr office (10.8, which I forgot because my work result in Sept2014 was 2.5, weird), but that for pregnancy she prefers to see it below 3.5 (currently 3.9). She's prescribing a very low dose of medication, and after 6 weeks, I'll get tested again. Hopefully this is all going to work out!

Hi. I just wanted to add in my experience- if you talk to different docs, you will get different recommendations, always.
I also have hashimotos, had 2 miscarriages at 11 weeks, my TSH with the first was 3.6 and 2.9 with the second. My OB/gyn seemed happy with those levels. I went to a reproductive endocrinologist after the second miscarriage and he did the whole genetic workup, found nothing, and increased my synthroid with a target tsh below 2.5. When I was no longer doing treatments, I went to a new endocrinologist who wanted my levels below 2.0. Both of them wanted me to increase my thyroid medication the moment I got pregnant again. (Which I haven't yet)
Anyway, don't be afraid to see a specialist for it- I don't know who's right and who's wrong but if it can decrease my chance of another miscarriage, I'm in.

Most healthcare professionals have their own ideas based on their experiences. I also think there could be undiagnosed people with thyroid disease skewing the range. It seems to be a pretty common problem. A lot factors into what doctors expect normal/healthy TSH levels to be. Hope for no more miscarriages for you, Hormonalharriet.

Update: I've been on Levothyroxine for 8 days. Yesterday I expected AF, but got a small amount of brownish CM instead. Fingers crossed.

Hopefully it does the trick! I am a bit disappointed b/c I really thought the thyroid meds would be my trick but 2 years later and nothing :( But who knows what else is going on. Seems like our bodies can be so fickle sometimes!
