Possible Perimenopause

I am 41 and have been having symptoms consistent with perimenopause since about about February last year (about half a year after m/c). After a couple of months worth of these symptoms (mostly hot flashes, and heavier periods, some fatigue, and loss of sex drive), I went to a doctor to have it investigated. She was a GP but at a specialised clinic where they all have training specifically in fertility matters.

She sent me for all the usual blood tests and a pelvic ultrasound... the latter because I started suffering from significant pelvic pain at the same time as all these other symptoms (at exactly the same time, the pelvic pain started exactly the same week as the other symptoms, including my libido getting switched off like switching off a light).

I can't remember all the exact numbers... but the FSH was good, and the AMH was at the high end of the normal range on the scale that they use. We talked a bit about all this pain, and the fact that these hot flashes are definitely not just in my head... and the possibility of endometriosis was brought up. But as far as perimenopause goes, I just got a lot of reassurance and left.

Over the next couple of months, all the symptoms got worse. I went back to her and got a CT scan. I went to a different doctor for the results as this doctor went on extended leave (which meant I got a 2nd opinion on the blood test results). The CT results suggested a fibroid and a slightly bulky uterus because of it... probably not a very big fibroid. Even though I explained that my AMH would be higher due to PCOS, this 2nd doctor was also adamant that she still couldn't reconcile these blood test results with perimenopause.

I have finally gotten in to see a gyno'/FS... and he really isn't interested in the fibroid at all (he's seen the CT and seems to think it's nothing, and not worth discussing). I continue with worsening hot flashes, no libido, heavy periods, clotting, brown spotting for several days after every period, and a dragging pain (feels like it's in my ovaries specifically) that radiates down my legs, sometimes all the way down to my ankles. I did one of those home menopause tests, and if it wasn't positive, it looked pretty darn close to it (I posted the image on here recently, it really looked like a borderline result to me).

I've just had new blood tests, and I will call to make an appointment for results first thing Monday for results. I tried to today, but couldn't get in... I'm finding it very hard to get through the weekend. Very, very afraid of the results at this point. I have been looking everywhere for information about the possibility of my set of symptoms being consistent with either endo' or a fibroid... but it really doesn't look that way, regardless of what I've been told.

Has anyone else been through this strange set of circumstances? I'm really worried that TTC is useless now.

First, very sorry for all your struggles. At our age, perimenopause is always a possibility. I'm 44 and started to feel the tugs of it around 41 as well, with many similar symptoms.

With your AMH levels and FSH in good order, you could still have a chance to get pregnant. In essence, there are 2 really important factors 1.) egg quality and quantity and 2.) aging of the house.

Your AMH indicates you still have eggs, although that doesn't predict their quality, only quantity.

Have you tried any supplements to perhaps address the balance and aging of the 'housing' for your reproductive system? These can help address quality issues of important reproductive structures. Some possibilities include Pre-natal vitamins, vitamin D, vitex/chasteberry, L-arginine, black cohosh (first part of cycle), fish oil, thyroid (if you are hypo...anyone wanting to get pregnant should always have this checked), CoQ10, PQQ, and DHEA 25 mg 3x per day.

Well, these are just some thoughts. I know this post is a few months old and perhaps it has all been looked at plenty by now, but maybe there is something in here that could be useful.
