Low Progesterone?

Hi there everyone I've just joined and this will be my first month TTC!

I am 37 and DH is 40. He has two boys but I want me of my own as well. After getting married last year I went off the pill and it's been a roller coaster of hormones ever since. It's been about 7 months post pill...cycle got a bit more regular and now ranges between 28-32 days. I have had a couple appointments with the doctor and got the thumbs up to try, super excited! He confirmed I ovulated last month and that my hormones were all within "normal" range.

There is one thing that has me worried and that is my progesterone. Although I've gone off the pill as much as a year at a time in the past, I never had issues with my period. But this time is very very different and I know my body has changed. Not only am I 37 now, but my stress level in the past year could be rated as extreme. I feel like the stress has added to some imbalances.

Symptoms: extremely tender nipples and breasts from ovulation to period, much more so than usual. Clotting. Heavy painful period. Spotting 4 days up to period.

To me this sounds like low progesterone, the doc thought so as well. Doctor tested it the week after ovulation and said my level is 17, and the normal range for a 37 yo on that day of cycle was between 10-90. I asked him if it's on the low side and he didn't give a clear answer. Also asked if there is anything I can/should do about it and he just keeps saying a natural pregnancy is best. I agree, but if there is something I can do to avoid MC I want to do it. I am an American living in holland so sometimes the communication gets muddled, and the system here can leave me feeling disoriented a bit.

Last month I started with DIM, upped my magnesium, progesterone cream day 14-28, and have been taking vitex and maca for a couple months. I noticed that I felt a bit better and did not have so much nipple pain this past month. I want to continue with these supplements but the doctor didn't seem to think I needed any of it. In Holland they just think you should not do anything unless you are TTC for 12 mos + and diagnosed with infertility.

Sorry for the long post but I'm feeling a bit lost and lonely. Wondering if anyone has any advice or similar experience? Baby dust to all!
