Yes, usually your doctor will do a scan to determine the gestational age of the fetus. Be aware, it's usually an intravaginal ultrasound! :-p
Also, from my experience, the doc does a pap if one is due. My least favorite part, but you'll get to hear the heartbeat from the us and see your baby! So the torture is totally worth it.

I have my first appt with doc on 1st sept - fingers crossed they use U/S - have an early scan booked for 26th but not expecting to see much as will be 6+5 then.
