37 yo TTC # 1 and looking for buddies...

Hi,

I am 37 years old and DH is 39. I am on CD 2 today. DH already has 2 from and previous marriage and I have always wanted to have 1 of my own, but waited for my Mr. Right. We got married 3 years ago on Memorial Day weekend. We have been trying now for over over a year. Back in Nov 2013 we went to see a Fertility Specialist that was very blunt but from what I understand is very good in his field. He made it very clear that my age a weight could be a factor but that it's still possible. DH had a SA done 5 months ago and they found an infection which caused low count and low motility. So he and I were both on antibiotics for 3 weeks. Had another SA done and it was all cleared up and his count normal. I have had an HSG done and all was clear 3 months ago. Doctor gave us 3 months to try on our own...sadly I am still not getting pregnant. So, Monday I go in for a Laparoscopy and I am so nervous. Praying the doc finds something and can fix whatever it is he finds. What I am mostly nervous about is that they don't find anything wrong.

Starting to feel alone in this journey...anyone else going through the same thing?

Hi, Lolo1176!

I'm 36 and my BF and I have been trying to conceive, our first child, for a year without any success. We just started taking it more seriously this cycle, so I did the OPK and started using Pre-Seed, Royal Jelly and B6. If it doesn't work, I'm going to start temping and adding Evening Primrose Oil to the mix.

We're probably going to give ourselves 3-6 months of dedicated trying before we go see a doctor. I actually did an IUI cycle, with a sperm donor, back in 2011 before I met my BF, so at least I know what to expect if that's the route we have to go.

Good luck and lots o' baby dust to you! :)

JayneB: Yea, DH and I use Preseed. I really like that stuff. I've never heard of Royal Jelly. The doctor has me on Baby Aspirin in the morning (I had a couple blood clots 7 years ago so it just a preventative measure), and in the evening I have been taking Prenatal Vitamins, Omega 3, and Vitamin D-3. I haven't tried anything else really since seeing the doctor. DH & I tried on our own for about 6 months. When we were trying on our own I was drinking FertiliTea in hopes that that might help. i still have some of that left so I might try to finish that off and see what happens. They say after the age of 35 to try for 6 months then see a specialist. So you are on the right track. I haven't tried Evening Primrose Oil yet. Maybe I will try that at some point too.

Good luck!

Ugh so annoyed. Surgery was canceled due to my doctor having an emergency and needed to reschedule. And since these types of surgeries are all based on CD's and timing. I had to reschedule until the end of next month. So hopefully I end up pregnant so I don't have to go through this nerve racking wait again.

First off good luck to everyone! I'm two months away from being 36 and just got off the pill in February. I'm 7dpo and hoping that three times a charm (third month off pill) I would say because of our age it's best to do everything we can right away so time doesn't pass us by. I haven't tracked my ovulation or temperature but will this month.

Hi ladies, I'm almost 38 and have been ttc for several years. Currently doing IUIs and acupuncture - unexplained infertility.

Lolo, I'm surprised that your clinic would say that your age is such a factor. Yes, the odds drop as you get older, but you're not THAT old. It was never mentioned to me at all by my clinic, other than that it may take a bit longer than someone in their 20s. Your "biological age" and how good of shape your eggs and reproductive system are in are more important. The clinic should be testing your LH, FSH, etc, not just writing off your infertility as age-related. Weight is a different matter, and I have seen a number of studies showing that being under- and overweight play a big role in infertility - but again, effects of weight should show up in lab results.

Welcome Ladies!

valmv78: Good luck to you and hope it happens right away for you. If it doesn't happen right away just know it might be due to the fact that you just recently came off the pill. I have heard it can typically take a year of being off the pill before someone gets lucky enough to get pregnant. That being said, I have a friend that got pregnant twice while on the pill...lol...so, obviously the pill didn't work for her. ;) Temping helps, if only to make sure you O'd. Once you see that then it's up to you really if you want to keep temping. But since you are starting out, I suggest you temp all the way through for at least 3 months. Just so you can get a feel of how your body works and your temps.

4thstar: I am so sorry to hear that you had to have that type of surgery. But at least this means that you can get pregnant. So here's hoping that you get pregnant again soon and with no issues! :) If you do decide to get the OPK's can I suggest what my doctor told me was the Clearblue Digital OPK's. The pink ones. It's apparently the only ones he trusts and you use that one with your FMU. They are a bit more expensive but it takes the guessing out of it. DON'T get them at Walgreens. You can get more than double the amount of tests for the same price at Walmart and/or Target. Walgreens rips you off with that test. They only give you 7 tests where at Walmart and Target they give you 20.

NorthernBabyDream: How many IUI's have you had done? Do they have you fertility drugs too? Thank you by the way for making me feel not old...lol.

My regular OBGYN said she has delivered many babies from older women. And the hospital I go to sorta specializes in older women giving birth. My DH keeps saying I misunderstood what the Fertility doctor said, and I suppose it's possible, I was pretty emotional that day. My Fertility Doctor is all about numbers and statistics and sorta lacks on the emotional side of it all...he's male. The only reason I still go to him is because he's good and so many people have said he's the one that gets it done. I do know that when we went in for our initial appt he asked how old I was and told him I was turning 37 in a couple weeks. So I heard him say as he was writing in my file probably next to Ovaries age 38. It is possible that I took it the wrong way though. My emotional state that day was uncontrollable. I was on CD 3, DH and I had been trying for 7 months and 2 days before I had just found out that my brothers GF was 3 months pregnant and they weren't even trying. Then I go into this dr's appt and he starts telling me that temping wasn't worth it and to throw away the thermometer (but I still do it), that I wasn't using the correct OPK's, and made me feel like all the research I have ever done on TTC was wrong. Then he went on to say that my age could be a factor as well as my weight. And gave me suggestions on how to fix my weight. *SIGH* That's not as easy of a fix. I am hoping that when and if it ever warms up I can start at least walking. It's not that I'm a plus size or but I quit smoking 7 years ago and have definitely gained weight from that. But lately I have been counting calories which worked a bit last year and he said not to join a gym or anything like that but don't become a couch potato either...lol. He suggested Weight Watchers but I can't really afford that either at the moment. So I am doing something similar but on the side. :)

I do know that women are able to get pregnant at this age. I think I am just starting to feel age sensitive. I wanted to start trying a couple years ago but had to wait for DH to be ready. I don't know very many that are still trying for their first at this age. Most of my friends at this age are getting pregnant with their 2nd or 3rd. That is why I started this Topic so those of us don't feel alone in this journey and when we do get pregnant then we can say we know someone at this age (and possibly who is not at perfect weight) got pregnant and we can have our hope renewed. :)

Well ladies, I hope you have a great evening. I'll be checking in. Please feel free to vent or chat openly here.

Hi Ladies!

Today not sure why but i am feeling a bit better. Maybe I got some sleep and maybe it knowing that DH and I are starting to BD tonight. I just hope it's not a quicky...lol.

How is everyone doing today? I am not able to see anyone's charts so I am just curious where you are at in your cycles?

Hope everyone is having a good day!

Hope everyone is doing well this cycle!

So, last night I came home to a nice romantic evening planned by my DH. He is so wonderful. Since it had been a stressful month and he knows this next coming month may end up being just as stressful...hopefully not as bad though...he planned a candlelit dinner, music and Champagne. And we started our BD schedule.

Here's to a lucky month for all of us!

WOW it's quiet in this forum...just me tapping...lol. ;) But that's OK.

Well, DH & I did not BD last night or this morning. Last night I started to get way too tired and my teeth/gums started to hurt (I think due to me allergies) and this morning I had an appt. So, after looking at my chart I figured we have done it enough this month. Of course, this morning my temp dropped again. But apparently it didn't drop below the coverline. If it's true then I am on 3 DPO. I also use FF so kinda waiting for a confirmation to see if both sites add up to when I O'd. What do you ladies think?

I have been so tired these past few days. Waking up OK but finding myself in need of a nap in the middle of the day. Today my boobs feel slightly tender at times. And I feel slightly nauseous...it feels kinda like an anxiety type nauseous though...if that makes sense. This could all be from me suffering from my allergies too though. So who knows. I am trying not to read into it too much.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!
