What’s next
I had my appointment with my RE today to discuss my options after this cycle. He basically gave me two options. One is injections. That is the option he recommends most. It has a much higher success rate, about 20% (Clomid is about 8%). However, it is much more expensive, requires extra ultrasounds, and has a higher likelihood of twins, also about 20%. The second option is a different pill, promara. It has about the same success rate as clomid, although it works differently has has fewer side effects.
I would rather do injections, since it’s more likely to work for us. However, the cost is a big deciding factor right now (how frustrating is that??). Luckily, my insurance covers the ultrasounds, with just a copay. I placed a call to my prescription insurer to find out if they will cover the medications I’ll need. I should hear back in 1-2 days. I’m nervous, because while I was pregnant with my son, I had trouble with the company covering an anti-nausea pill that I basically needed in order to function. I had morning sickness throughout my entire pregnancy and was losing a lot of weight. I am really hoping that they will cover the injectable medications.
So for now, I’m in limbo once again. I’m not sure what our next step will be. If the meds are covered, we’ll do injections. If it’s not, I suppose we’ll do a few rounds of the pill until I can save up some money to pay for the injections. Or maybe, just maybe, we’ll get pregnant this month and I won’t have to worry about any of this!
I ovulated yesterday as expected, so I’m 1 DPO. Hopefully the TWW will go quickly! (HA!)
Baby dust to all!

M’Lisa–My doctor said that with medications and monitoring (ultrasounds), hormone injections can cost around $1500. My medical insurance does cover the ultrasounds and office visits, etc, so for me, it’s mainly down to the cost of the actual medications. My RE said that is around $500.
Lynsey–Thank so much for the comment! I actually typed that medication wrong, I’m sorry! It’s actually Femara, aka Letrozole. It’s a pill that induces ovulation, like clomid, but it works a little differently. Sorry for the confusion!
thank you, i have heard of that, i thought it was an injectable, i will look it up as i am hitting desperation now..good luck with your cycle
hello, good luck, hope you get your bfp, but i was wondering what promara is..i searched it with no results..and never heard of it, wondering if i should be considering it over clomid, anyway, please inform me, and good luck, and thank you in advance
I just did four rounds of clomid, no luck. My doctor hasnt suggested a next step yet, how much are the injections?
