Roadblock

Posted on November 15th, 2011. Written by MeAsAMommy.

So my Rx company called back today and confirmed my fear. My insurance will not cover injections. I am so upset and frustrated. I called the company before I started seeing my RE and they assured me that they cover everything except experimental things like IUI and IVF. I should have known, but it’s still hard to accept.

They are supposed to call me back to let me know how much the medication would be through them. Since Christmas is coming and money is tight anyway, we will have to wait at least a cycle or two to even attempt injections. I suppose Femara (Apologies btw, I wrote previously that the other medication available was Provera, I was wrong) is worth a try, but it’s disappointing to know that there is a better option and I can’t have it now. I hate that someone in an insurance company can decide my future and my options for me.

I don’t understand why so much is not covered for infertility. It almost seems like discrimination. My body doesn’t work right, so I don’t have the right to have a child because the treatments aren’t covered by insurance that I pay good money for.

*sigh* I know it’s not over. We can try femara, we could still get pregnant, we could even get pregnant this month (PLEASE GOD!), but this is certainly very discouraging and very frustrating. I am just praying for patience, luck and strength to get me through this.

  1. Thanks Diannys! Wow you’re really lucky that your insurance will cover IUI! I knew going in that mine wouldn’t. Thanks for the advice on calling around to check prices, I’ll definiately do that!

CONGRATS on your pregnancy!!!!! That’s wonderful! I hope you have a healthy pregnancy and a beutiful healthy baby!!! Thanks for the comment!

  2. Im so sorry!
I called my insurance before I went to the RE and they assured me everything was covered. I also have 3 rounds of IUI covered in a lifetime.

when I got the meds prescriptions, the most expensive ones didnt get covered. (thanks to stupid medco)
What I did was that i called EVERY Pharmacy in town to get the best price. I might have called 5 or 6 until I found the best price. I still spent some unexpected money in them.

I did one round of IUI and today I am 13 weeks pregnant! Its worth the try!

Baby dust to you :) and keep on the faith!
