Question

Pregnant! Numbers? What do they mean?

I just got a call from my OB's office with the results of yesterday's blood draw.

What do the numbers mean?

For reference, I am currently 12 dpo, blood draw was on 11 dpo.

HCG: 13

Progesterone: 8.9

I know the HCG is positive for pregnancy, but the PA acted like it didn't mean anything because it was "barely above negative".

The progesterone sounds low to me, but she said it was fine. I go back for a second draw Monday.

Are my numbers good? Should I be worried?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

The first number doesn't really mean anything. The question will be whether your hCG doubles roughly every two days. Here's a great website that has hCG ranges and doubling times for singletons, twins, and triplets: http://www.betabase.info/chart/basic/single (you can get some really good info by clicking the links under the massive "Betabase" logo at the top).

Progesterone is fine at that level for 12 dpo, but eventually they'll want it to be above 10, then above 25. Here's a good link for progesterone ranges by week of pregnancy: http://www.newkidscenter.com/Progesterone-Levels-in-Early-Pregnancy.html

I hope this helped a bit. I know the numbers can be both confusing and cause for unnecessary anxiety. Ultimately though, if your doctor says you're fine, then you're fine. Good luck and congratulations!
