I have pink and brownish spotting can this be a sign of pregnancy?

Yesterday after sex my boyfriend and I noticed what we thought was blood but actually seems to be very light pink spotting. I noticed it today also but it was more of a brownish color in discharge. My period is very irregular but from what my period tracker says, my period was due three days ago (unless this is my period coming). But by period is usually heavy also. I know I have to take a pregnancy test to get an answer for sure, but could this be a sign of pregnancy?
Pregnancy is a possibility for me because we haven't been using protection during sex, hoping to start a family.
