Anyone experience this?

I just returned from the doctor. I've been so busy I couldn't remember if I put a tampon in or not. I was convinced I had not. Me n hubby dtd and immediately I knew something wasn't right. I checked for a string, nothing. Thought maybe I was just dry. He told me he had some irritation so I decided I need to find out if there's one stuck inside. 3 days went by and I had brown blood and an odd smell that was so strong I'll never forget it. I I called the dr when it opened and she said get here now. Sure enough there it was pushed up behind my cervix. I thought this stuff didn't really happen. Anyone have a lost tampon before?
