Question

New to OPK, please help!

Hi everyone,

This is my first month trying with the OPK and I'm not sure what time of day is best to take the test? I have a 25 day cycle so I started testing 2 days after AF, and so far only negatives and no line at all. Kind of discouraged and hoping I don't encounter another challenge of not ovulating. Instructions say to take test after longest sleep. Does anyone have any advice here? TTC for 2 months and feeling discouraged:( I hope I didn't wait too long to try, now 33. Any advice would be helpful!

Thanks!

Which opk's do u have? Different brands have different urine times. Like the clearblue fertility monitor sticks require fmu, whereas other opk's require anything after. There is no perfect time to test, we all have surges at different times. Majority of my surges are with smu before 8am. U have to find the times that suit ur specific lifestyle.
U should have somewhat of a line, are u testing with a decent hold time and minimal fluid intake? Results can vary greatly if ur drinking too much etc. I don't think ur age is a big worry just yet, don't even start stressing about that....one step at a time! Keep using ur opk's, test with ur best morning urine (not fmu) then again early evening (10 or so hours later). U shouldn't miss it then.
Good luck! =))

Sorry, I'm using Clear Blue digital. I tested yesterday afternoon and got a blanks circle, negative. Then tested again this morning with fmu and got a blinking smiley face, high but not peak. So I'm assuming I'm on the countdown to ovulation? The instructions on clear blue digital say to test after longest sleep, so I'm assuming that means fmu? What is smu? Second morning urine? If clear blue says to test in morning should I not be testing in the afternoon also as I may get a false negative?

Thanks for the help! This is confusing.

I use CB as well. For me, I can't use fmu. I've tested with fmu and had a high (flashing) reading then tested 2hrs later with smu (second morning urine) and had a peak (solid). That happened a few months in a row so I just started using smu for my tests. I drink a lot before bed so my fmu is generally weak, despite an 8+ hr hold time...same goes with my hpts.
The issue with those and testing once a day (with fmu), is u can get a false neg. U could start ur surge 2hrs after ur fmu and not catch it til the next am. That's a long window to miss out on bd'ing. Def make sure to bd now that ur getting high readings. If u can grab some cheapie tests or want to use more CB, u can try again in the late afternoon/early evening. Just make sure u have a decent hold time with minimal fluid intake, in case ur urine output for hormones isn't very high.
Lemme know if u need any help!
Good luck! =))
