Confusing result for pregnancy test

Hi. My girlfriend had a pregnancy test this morning. The result was a bit confusing. Right after saturating the strip in urine, we saw that the entire "test area" became light pink. The control line also appeared immediately (which I guess is normal). Following the instructions, we waited 5 minutes and looked at it again. The pink shade had disappeared and only the control line was visible. Is this normal? Or maybe the hCG was so strong that it made the entire area pink temporarily? My girlfriend's period is 2.5 weeks late. Note that we never saw a "line" in the test area. One a light pink which disappeared after a few minutes. Thanks for your help.
