Question

Stopping Progesterone After 2nd Beta (4 Weeks)?

Hi everyone,

I'm currently 4w1d and got my 2nd beta result today. My HCG is looking great and doubling well. I've been taking a progesterone supplement (vaginally) since 2 DPO, and a girl at my RE's office said that unless my progesterone level from today's lab is low (haven't gotten that back yet), I can go ahead and stop.

I'm concerned about stopping the progesterone so early, especially since I've had two early miscarriages. It seems like most women who take progesterone are on it until at least 8-10 weeks. What do you think?

I wouldn't stop it, u were put on it for a reason. It won't hurt to continue using it. I'd continue til at least 10wks...12 would be better.
Good luck! =))

stopping could cause bleeding, the standard is once supplements are started to not stop until week 12 when placenta takes over.

I agree with the other two ladies about not stopping until 12 weeks. I also had two very early miscarriages due to low progesterone. I am 23 pregnant now and it's 100% because I started progesterone suppositories (and injections) at 4 weeks pregnant and remained on the suppositories until 12 weeks. There is no harm in taking the progesterone, so my advice is stay on it until your doctor truly feels that you are ready to go off.

I would request to keep using them until 12 weeks. Often it isn't until 6 weeks or later that the deficiency is detected. I was on it until 14 weeks with my second pregnancy, until the bleeding stopped. Don't take the risk, especially if you have a history of miscarriage!
