Question

My temps jump up and down around ovulation which makes it difficult to tell when I ovulate...

My temps are on the normal "lower" lever during the beginning of the cycle, then it dips to it's lowers during the whole cycle (a clear dip) - then it's up and down for 2-3 days, then it takes another low dip (but never AS low as the first dip), then it rises again and it's at this point where it won't dip again and it remains on the "higher" temp level for the rest of the cycle.

So does O occur when the temp rises to that new level, or is it possible that O occurs during or just after that first lowest dip? They usually seem to say that after O your temps don't drop, but mine spike up and down between the 2 dips then finally rises again.

Does anyone else have this and do you know when you're ovulating?

My ferning is also irregular so I don't trust that completely to tell me when I'm ovulating or not, although there is usually at least one day of full ferning before my temps dip (either before the first dip or before the second dip).

Hmm...I think it's possible that the first jump could be ovulation and then you are having what is called a "fall-back" dip and then it goes up and stays. But it could just be coincidence. If you look at my charts you can see I sometimes do that as well. But at least for the cycle at the top, my O is definitely right as I got my BFP and my baby measures exactly right for August 23 O date. If I were you I would BD as if both could be your O date so you don't stop too soon and miss the egg. Your chart looks good as far as BD.

Q: What is a fallback temperature?

A: A fallback temperature is when your basal body temperature that was above the coverline drops for 1-2 days below the coverline.

A fallback temperature has no significant effect on a possible pregnancy
and the temperature for that day can be ignored.
