Does you BBT just drop on your first day of your cycle and then go back up?

CD1- Temp dropped all the way down to 96.6 and now it has risen back up to 98.1, is that normal or should it stay low throughout the duration of my period?

Actually could someone just explain simply how to decipher BBT?

My temp drops on the last day of the old cycle and stays in my pre-O range during the new cycle. So I would wonder if you have other factors at play? Illness, alcohol, using a heater, etc. I see this was two weeks ago - did your temps level out and behave as they ought to? :P
