What is the recommended dosage of folic acid when TTC?
I've seen 800 mcg up to 4 months before conception most commonly but I've also noticed they recommend 4,000 mcg or more for women who might be at risk for conceiving a child with a NTD. Why not just recommend 4,000 mcg to everyone. What is the downside to taking extra? What is the recommended dosage if you're using it as a fertility aid vs. prevention of NTD?
