cervical position

Im a day or two away from my period and i am wondering about pregnancy. My cp was low soft and closed yesterday/felt slightly open. Today it rose way up there, so out of reach i can only feel that it is firm. I took a test and its neg.
Is this normal to be so high up at the beginning of a period?
