Question

Metaformin for ovulation?

I've recently been diagnosed with PCOS. My OBGYN has prescribed me metformin to induce ovulation. I was wondering if anyone else has had any luck with ovulation with this medication?

I was prescribed metformin along with clomid to try induce ovulation when I wasn't ovulating at all and was diagnosed with PCOS as well. Do you ovulate at all?

Years later, we finally discovered another issue, with a different doctor. My thyroid was so messed up that it was affecting my pituitary, which was affecting ovulation/menstruation. Previous doctors were only checking the TSH, which at the time was "on the high side of normal, but still within acceptable range" at 4.3...which most will tell you makes it darn near impossible to achieve pregnancy. (Our lab considers anything under 4.5 to be "normal" while most US labs use an upper limit of 3.0)

So the metformin didn't work for me, but who knows if it would have, had my thyroid been ok. If you haven't already, be sure to check your thyroid levels, too if you're not ovulating. Sometimes they only check other hormones and forget that the thyroid could be involved. :-) Good luck!
