Question

Both positive and negative tests in same week, different brands, is it because of faulty tests?

AF is now 3 days late. I have been testing for a week with different brands, the .88 cent ones from Walmart, equate brand, FRER and ClearBlue. I have gotten an equal amount of positives (but all faint) as I have negative tests. I took a digital Clear Blue this morning and said Not Pregnant but I took a Clear Blue plus test and came back very faintly positive. I am going crazy. I can't see the doctor for another two weeks. I never had this problem with my first, lines came up right away on the day of my missed period. Is it possible I just got a bunch of faulty tests that look positive? Any advice would be appreciated. The lines don't seem to get darker by the day.... Btw, every brand I have taken I have gotten at least one faint positive or one negative, so it's split down the middle and regardless of brand.

I don't have any personal experience with this one, but I've been told that the "discount" tests are cheaper because they're past their expiration date. If that's the case, then you very well may have a bunch of faulty tests. If you can afford it, spring for a CVS or Walgreens brand test (they're as accurate as the big-names when you're 3 days late, but quite a bit cheaper), just to put your mind at ease.

Or, if your insurance is semi-decent, go see your OB/GYN and ask to take a test there. They'll have you leave a urine sample, and they'll test it right away. On the up-side, if you are pregnant, the doctor is right there for any questions.

Good luck!

The ClearBlue digital isn't very sensitive unless you're using the advanced digital with weeks estimator. So it's possible that you don't have enough hCG to turn a digital positive yet.

I've had 5 chemical pregnancies and with most of them I went through what you're going through now. I kept getting super, super faint lines on the Wondfos I was using (internet cheapies) and I thought maybe the tests were defective. I picked up a target brand "early results" tests, FRER, ClearBlue +, wal-mart .88 cent and the "new choice" test from the dollar store. On all the tests I either got a super, super faint squinter that appeared within the time frame or a BFN, depending on sensitivity.

With my chemicals I would usually finally get a positive that, while still very faint, was dark enough that I could tell it was there and my husband could see it also. And then the next day tests would be lighter again and my period would start.

Hopefully this isn't the case for you
