Over 5 weeks and no gestational sac seen with U/S?

Based on the regular cycles I've been tracking for the past few months, I should be about 5 weeks 4 days today. Had my first ultrasound after many faint positives and a lot of getting my hopes up with family and doctors encouragement. Now I am freaking out. I'm positive of the first day of my last period though the doctors are saying I must be wrong. If I ovulated late, it had to have been SUPER late. Anybody else think they were about 5-6 weeks when they were really about 4? That's what I'm hoping for but the cards are feeling stacked against me. Took blood today and will have hcg level test results Friday, then more blood taken Friday and Monday, with the moment of truth happening at my next ultrasound appt Wednesday if the levels are rising. These are going to be the longest days of my life. Not only do I want this baby more than anything in the world but I've gotten the family's hopes up after having just tragically lost my boyfriend's little brother. So much unavoidable stress. :(
