15 months Postpartum TTC - no ovulation (NOT nursing)
I am 15 months postpartum and we are ttc #2. I nursed my son for 13 months. A month and half after stopping my period still didn't return. My OB put me on the pill for a month hoping to regain my cycle and balance out my hormones. Had a "period" 16 days ago. Was pretty light and lasted 5-6 days. I'm now on CD 16 and still no ovulation (using OPKS). I just have a feeling I'm not going to ovulate. Anyone have any past experience with this? Or advice? I've searched all over the Internet and there is nothing. My OB said if I don't get a cycle this month they would do blood work and put me on clomid. I just hate the wait see that my OB is advising ???? We have been using OPK's for 6 months now..

I think your OBGYN is actually bring pretty pro-active. Here, most would tell you that it may take 6 months to a year after ceasing nursing for your cycle to resume/regulate itself. As for birth control pills "regulating your hormones"...from what I've learned, it's poppycock. You're not having a real cycle. You're simply having a withdrawal bleed from the hormones in the pill that mimic a natural cycle. A better bet would be to use Provera alone to induce menstruation, in my experience.
Have they checked your hormone levels? Thyroid? Ultrasound to check for cysts at all, or growing follicles? Have you had success with OPK's before? I ask because they never were super helpful/effective for me. If you're not already, you may want to start charting your cervical position or basal body temperature as well. If nothing else...definitely do some investigative blood work. Good luck!
