Question

It's taking much longer then expected for me to get pregnant then I honestly expected.

Could it be taking longer to get pregnant because I don't know exactly when I'm ovulating? I haven't been using birth control for years. Had one miscarriage in 2012. My fiance and I have been trying for over a year. However I've never been sure when I'm ovulating. Can it really take this long to get pregnant. I've been told to take pre-natals daily since I'm trying to get pregnant and stop drinking pop. Didn't know that would decrease my chances of getting pregnant. i drink it often.

The current research says that about 80% of women who are TTC will get pregnant in the first year of trying. After a year of trying (or 6 months if you're 35 or older) you should consider seeing a reproductive endocrinologist.

If you know that you're likely missing your fertile window some months you want want to consider using ovulation predictor tests (OPKs) and temping. If you find out that you're generally fertile at a time you weren't previously expecting to be fertile and you know sex wasn't well timed you may want to give it a bit longer before seeing a RE. But that's up to you.

I'm so sorry for your previous loss. And I'm sorry it's taking you so much longer now than you had hoped. I've been TTc since January 2015 and "actively trying" (temping, charting, OPKs etc.) with 4 losses. So I totally get how you're feeling. It's horrible. And I'm sorry that you're going through the same thing.

I wish you all the best going forward.
