9DPO, LH Surge Right Before Period?

I am waiting on a delivery of HPT strips to arrive today. I've been testing with OPK's just to keep myself sane. They were gradually decreasing in strength of test line...until this morning. I got a strong line today. The line was even stronger than when I peaked at ovulation.

I took a HPT, but got a negative. Today is 9DOP.

I am trying not to get my hopes up, but could the OPK's be detecting HcG? Or is an LH surge right before your period common?

Any experiences and/or reference material would be greatly appreciated.
