Period start????

I thought I officially started my period two days ago with red bleeding (12dpo) but its stopped and is now brown. I am awaiting its major start any time now as I know its my period coming, but which is the official start day? When i start bleeding deep red and it doesnt stop?

Anyone really know why this happens? I find it so annoying every month and i didnt start having this until after my 2nd baby.

Any answers are greatly appreciated!
