Question

Do all the follicles release at once?

This cycle (on 150mg of Clomid) I had 5 ripe follicles (2 on right 3 on left) at my scan on Monday (All around 20-22mm in size). I took a trigger shot (ovidrel) Monday evening. Wednesday morning I went in for my IUI.

Since Tuesday evening through today I've been feeling twinges/cramping at my ovaries.

I know with 1 follicle, ovulation occurs at about 36 hrs post trigger. With multiple, do they all release at once or is it possible that each release at different times? Is it possible that they won't all release?

They usually release in 24-48 hours. That's why the iui is typically done at 36 hours right in the middle of that window. Even if an egg releases early at the 24 hour mark (tuesday night) it is still able to be fertilized for 12 hours so an iui at 36 hours can still catch it. And sperm lives for several days so even the later releasing eggs still have a shot. If they are over 20mm they should all release. Of course not all follicles contain a mature egg, there are the occasional "duds".
