Question

6th and last cycle of clomid no ovulation! What next??

Last month I took my last and final round of 50mg clomid. First round I got pregnant but sadly lost the baby at 7 weeks :( the next two months I wasn't monitored (no bloods taken and didn't take any ovulation tests). After this I went back to see my specialist who have me another 3 rounds of clomid at 50mg. This time I was monitored every cycle and round 4 & 5 I ovulated but didn't get pregnant. Last month was my 6th and last month of clomid, bloods showed that ovulation did not occur. I go back to see my doctor in two weeks but I don't know what to expect. Will I be referred straight to IVF or will she give me one more round of clomid at 100mg because I didn't ovulate last month? Long winded I know but I just want a little advice :)

I've been on clomid since January myself. 50mg did nothing for me, 100mg and I had some follicles, but they were too small, I didn't get any results with ovulating until 150mg dosage. I imagine your doctor will up the dose before trying something else. It's possible that you need more close monitoring by ultrasound for follicle size. They may also try Femara. Many who don't respond well to Clomid have great results on Femara. Good luck!

Usually the next step is injectables with either timed intercourse or iui. They might up your clomid dose but usually 6 months is the longest they want you to take it due to it's negative effects on your uterine lining and an increased risk of cancer. I did 6 rounds of 50mg of clomid, then 1 round with 100mg and timed intercourse and then I moved on to 4 rounds with injectables and iui. Then finally after all that failed I did ivf to conceive my daughter.

Thanks for your advice. I'm thinking she's just going to refer me straight for IVF but I will ask is there absolutely anything else we can try before we go down that route. After 5 years of trying I don't think I'm emotionally ready quite yet to go through IVF because I have been reading exactly what it entails. If the next step is that then I think we're going to take a couple of years off because for 5 years my life has been on hold because we are desperate to start a family. Both myself and my husband are only 26 so I know even if we start IVF when we get to 28 we're still not too old :)

We finally conceived after 6 1/2 yrs and 6 rounds of ivf. Yes ivf sounds intimidating at first but once you get going it's not that bad. You'll be surprised what you are capable of doing if you go that route! If you ever have ivf questions feel free to message me. I'm getting ready to go through ivf again for baby #2 in the next 6 months or so I think.

Thankyou for the advice. As soon as I start going down that route I will definitely message you :)

Hi, my case was a bit similar to yours but I was monitored. I took clomid at 50 mg day 2- say 6 for 4 cycles. First 3 I ovulated but did not conceive the 4th cycle I ovulated but only on day 22 so doc increased my dose to 100 mg and I conceived. Currently nearly 14 weeks with my first child. So might be worth asking the doc if you can try 2 cycles on an elevated dose before going for IVF. Good luck! :)

Seen my doctor last week. She's referred us to an IVF clinic but said we might not necessarily go straight to IVF. She said because I got pregnant and only have the issue of not ovulating every month that they might try another method first (not sure what those methods are). I'm just happy to have a break for the next couple of month and then get my head around trying something else :)
