Question

Planning pregnancy around work?

Has anyone ever planned a pregancy around work?
Recently we have lost 2 people at work so its just me and my friend/co-worker.
She takes vacation sporadically through the winter every year.
If i were to get pregnant now then i would go out in the winter for maternity leave which might mean she cant take her vacation.

I am dying to start trying to have a baby but havent been able to the past couple months because i feel so bad!

Have any of you had a similar experience?

I keep going back and forth and it doesnt help that hubby wants a baby now so bad!

Help! give me your opinion

Well you are obviously a very thoughtful person, but unless you are super fertile and very lucky the chances of you conceiving the first month of trying are not that high. Also if you conceived now your baby would be due sometime in Jan. So your colleague might still be able to take a bit of leave in dec depending on when you decide to go on your maternity leave. Unfortunately it is hard to plan these things to perfection and worst comes worst she will have to adjust this once. Good luck!

Im so torn because if someone told me i couldnt go on my vacation i go on every year i would probably quit.
But she uses her vacation randomly like thursday- friday and an occasional Monday from December - March!

That was one of my fears. That i wait and start trying and it takes longer then expected and i will feel like i wasted time.

I just feel terrible if my work wouldnt let her go because of me If i were to get pregnant right away.
But.. Ive been waiting since February and its killing me LOL

My whole family tells me not to worry about her.

Well, your work might just hire an extra person for maternity cover and maybe your colleague could still go on her leave. I don't think you should stress so much about these things. If your colleague wants to quit because she is unhappy she can't take her regular leave one year then that is her problem and not yours. I am sure she will be understanding if she cares as much about you as you clearly do about her! Good luck to you! :)

I agree with everyone else. Start trying because you don't know how long it will take to get pregnant. However, once you do & feel comfortable sharing the news ie after 12 weeks, tell your co-worker so she can adjust her schedule, & at some point your boss so they can think about coverage for you when you're gone. I waited some time planning around other people & my job, then had a slew of fertility problems & wish I had started a lot sooner.
