Question

Is there any way to make you period/ovulation come back after exclusively breastfeeding for a year??

So I had my baby girl February 6, 2015. She is now 14 months old and I still have not had my period return, so I'm clearly not ovulating yet. My fiance and I had been using protection this whole time even though we didn't really need to, but just to be on the safe side since we weren't ready for another baby yet. Well now I am wanting to not try but not prevent another pregnancy so we can conceive our 3rd baby but I obviously cannot do that if I am not ovulating... EBF must be the reason it has not returned, but my baby girl is not done breast feeding yet so is there any other way to bring on ovulation soon besides weaning? I want to get pregnant within a year I'm hoping and since last time it took 5 months to get pregnant I'd like to start now. Has anyone went through this before? Did you try anything to get your periods/ovulation back? Did anything work for you?

Not sure I can help but didn't want you to be left without a response. My daughter is 9months and breastfed. No formula ever to this day. She started baby foods when she was 6m but it was sporadic and it wasn't until about a month ago that she started eating baby food twice a day and only breastfeeding once at night. My period returned a month ago. I know our bodies are all different but I think less BFing at night and solids really helped my body return to normal. Make sure you're eating enough maybe? I had lost a lot of weight until she started solids then my weight went up slightly before my period came back. Hope that helps!

You could still be ovulating without a period. We had trouble conceiving while BF. I got pregnant the first time we tried with out daughter. But it has taken 5 months this time (I know that is no time to some people. I'm not trying to sound insensitive. Just showing the difference). She nurses a lot still. I'm not sure if you nurse her lying down but I have read that can prevent ovulation. Good luck! I started nursing her sitting up during the night time feedings bc I felt like I had a hostile uterus lol. I could feel the contracting and I'm pregnant now. So maybe that helped?

Everyone is different, of course but I got pregnant with my second when my first was 13 months. My period came back at 12 months and she was still breastfeeding. We used the supplement Vitex to help regulate it. Now we're trying for #3 and #2 is 10 months old. I've been on vitex for two weeks.

Thanks for the responses. I do nurse my daughter lying down at night and she usually sleeps through the night but sometimes wakes up during the night to feed. She feeds frequently during the day still but she eats a lot of foods during the day as well, she has been sleeping through the night since 1 month old and eating solids since 6 months... @teachygreen so Vitex is safe to use while breastfeeding? I looked up some methods before posting this but a lot of people said not to take it if you're breastfeeding? Did it affect your LO at all while you were taking it? Maybe it is taking longer to come back because of my weight... I lost a lot of weight breastfeeding and now weigh less than I did pre-pregnancy, maybe I need to gain a bit of weight back. Thanks again everyone for the responses, very helpful!
