Hi, did you do all these tests with fmu? If your urine is diluted it can affect the tests. Anyway might be worth going into your doctors for a blood test to check if your hcg levels are increasing as required. Good luck!

In order to do a true comparison of line darkness you need to test at the same time each day. Morning is best because it's the most consistent and concentrated. You also need to use the same brand. If those variables change then you can't really compare the tests.

As the other posters have mentioned you need to use the same brand and FMU each time you test to have a good comparison.

I know this is so much easier said than done but: try not to worry too much about the test being lighter. There are a couple of factors that can affect how dark a line is. Some tests (even within the same brand) have slightly different amounts of dye as a normal variation between tests and so the lines will be a little lighter or darker. If your urine is more diluted (like if you drank a lot more water before going to bed, for example) that can also cause lighter tests.

As for how long you're waiting to test: hCG doubles approximately every 24-72 hours with 48 hours being the average. If you test 2 days in a row it's 100% possible that your hCG simply hasn't had time to double yet. As difficult as this may be I'd suggest not testing for a couple of days. If in 4-6 days your test is significantly lighter that's a bad sign. If it's darker that's great!

I also wanted to add (but I ran out of room!) that I'm so very sorry that you're going through all this worry and uncertainty. I understand how difficult it is to not know if everything is okay or not. And how hard it is to know you're completely powerless to do anything either way.

Thanks to all for your answers. Unfortunately I started to miscarry on Tuesday. I had a scan I was 8 wks pregnant but the fetus had died at 6.3. I do really appreciate all your help
