Maybe a silly question but: How do I take temperatures with a normal thermometer?
Hi all you beautiful mamas, mamas to be, and hopeful mamas,
I have decided maybe I should start charting my termperature. It seems like a really common thing to do and after having tried to time sex with my personal 'discharges' I feel that maybe this month is my month (I am 9dpo and feeling symptoms that are not so familiar to me). Anyway, how do I chart my temperatures? When to test in the day? Where do I take the temperature from (sorry for that question, I am really clueless...). Is a normal digital thermometer fine? What patterns to I look for?
I am sure that there will be plenty of info about this all over the web but I though someone with practical experience may be able to give away some tips? Its so much nicer to have others to talk to about these things.

Take your temp first thing each morning using a basal body thermometer. You can get these at the drugstore or order off amazon. You will find your temps will be of a certain range pre O.... Then the day after you ovulate your temperature shoots up to a much higher degree. This helps you realize (along with other symptoms) that ovulation has taken place and what key cycle days to gear your efforts toward the next month!

You need a basal thermometer, you don't need a big fancy one. I think I paid $10 for mine at cvs. You need to make sure to take your temp first thing in the morning and I do mean FIRST thing. You can't get out of bed to use the bathroom first or do anything like that. When you first wake up your temp is basically at its resting period and is more accurate. If you have movement your body heats up and won't be accurate. It also has to be the same time everyday so pick a time that's your usual wake up time, and set alarms for days you don't usually wake up at that time. And where you put the thermometer is up to you.....either orally or vaginally. I temp vaginally, as weird as it sounds it's more convienent and I don't have to. Worry about accuracy as much. Orally you have to worry about correct placement and if you sleep with your mouth open it can effect accuracy as well. I just sleep with mine under my pillow, alarm goes off, grab it, temp, most times fall back asleep.
