Question

Blastocyst Development % for IVF?

Does anyone know what the average % is of fertilized embryos making it to the blastocyst stage is? We got converted to an IVF cycle and had our retrieval done over the weekend. There are now 11 fertilized eggs. Trying to set my expectations around how many actually will make it to Blastocyst. We are hoping to do a fresh transfer this month and freeze a few others for future months. Thoughts/experiences?

Don't be alarmed if you don't end up with many embryos at day 5. We started out with retrieving 28 eggs, 19 of which were mature. 16 fertilized, and by day 5, we had four. We transferred 2 embies on day 5 and one took. We still have two frozen. Just remember that not all of your embryos are meant to become babies. Once i started look at it like that, it helped me cope with that a lot better.

Thanks for sharing your experience - I appreciate it. And your perspective was very helpful. We were converted from an IUI cycle this month because we had too many follicles growing so we didn't get as many as we would during a traditional cycle but staying hopeful we a couple strong day fives :)
