What makes period symptoms stronger?

It seems like once a year I have what I called "monster periods". My face breaks out worse than usual and my boobs hurt more and for longer. Is this caused by estrogen or progesterone and is there anyway to help it not suck as hard?

Allegedly avoiding caffeine, eating healthily and exercising moderately helps. I think pms symptoms are caused by progesterone. All the best.
