Question

Chemical Pregnancy: Low Tyroid?!

Hello! This is my first month TTC after losing a pregnancy last year to a chemical pregnancy. Was not sure of why it happened, however, I recently saw an iridologist who told me that I would not be able to get pregnant, and if I did I would only be able to sustain the pregnancy for a month or so due to having a low thyroid level. I was told by the iridologist that he was able to detect that my thyroid was not functioning optimally, but that lab tests from a doctor would not be able to do so as the lab tests only test for t3 and t4, and those may not show up as low. I took a FRER yesterday (11DPO) and there is a VERY faint line, but it is there, and it IS PINK, so I know there must be HCG in my body. I know I shouldn't stress too much about what the iridologist said, however, I can't help thinking that could be the reason I lost the pregnancy last year?!? Is anyone familiar with this? Is there anything I can do?!?

Button017, first off Congratulations on your pregnancy!!! Do not let that quack scare you. Miscarriages and chemical pregnancies are VERY common. I know several people that have lost pregnancies and then gone on to have healthy children. I am one of those people. Don't let what that fake practitioner said to you stop you from enjoying this amazing time. There may be something to iridology, or there may not be, however, it is not a regulated field in the US and so anyone can claim to be a practitioner. I wish you a happy healthy pregnancy!! xx

T3 and T4 are the levels that determine how well your thyroid is functioning...if those levels aren't high, your thyroid is fine. Don't let some quack scare you. Recheck in 2 days and see if the line is darker...if it is, go see your doc :)

I am very sorry to hear that. I did want to write a note to let you know that this does not mean that there is anything wrong with you. It is estimated that 50-75% of all pregnancies are chemical. I have had 2 in the past 4 months. I have now stopped testing until I have missed my period by a couple days. Couldn't take anymore disappointed. I just wanted to tell you not to give up hope. A chemical pregnancy does not mean that you can't go on to have a healthy pregnancy. Good luckxx

Thank you so much natmomof1. It is heart breaking. I was sure it would stick this time. Strange thing is when I went back and looked at the test about an hour later you could see a very faint 2nd pink line....must be HCG in my body still? Just not sure what is going to happen now? My period isn't due until tomorrow...now I am wondering if there is still a chance?! Don't want to set myself up for anymore disappointment, but also don't want to completely give up hope until I see af arrive?!? I feel that at 14dpo the line should be darker?! And this morning when I first took the test I was sure it was negative...
