Petrified 6 weeks pregnant had tummy scan and no sac!
Hi everyone, hope anyone can put my mind at ease with their stories or knowledge..
Had a private scan where they just use a abdominal probe and had a thick lining to suggest pregnancy but no sac.
She told me she would expect to find a sac from 6 weeks.
I am 6 weeks and 6 days, went straight to my midwife and she tried to put my mind at ease telling me the private 2d/3d clinics scanners and sonographors are not as trained as the hospital.
Have a vaginal scan booked for next week but I am beside myself with worry.
Been TTC for 18 months and sadly had a missed miscarriage last year at 12 weeks.
Any advice is welcome

I know that's at the hospital this is a scan that I've payed for privately and they only use abdominal ones as its only at hospitals or NHS staff that are trained to do vaginal scans. I've had a early reassurance scans both times I've been pregnant and both times it has picked it up. Just this one hasn't so I am beside myself with worry something is wrong..

I would say that there are reasons most doctors wait at least until 7 weeks at the earliest to attempt even a transvaginal scan and your worry is one of those reasons. At this stage, it's really unnecessary to be so worked up, especially with it being an abdominal scan. Personally, I think it's highly irresponsible of private ultrasound facilities to perform such early scans. Please remember that they are not medical professionals and are not offering you a medical grade experience. They should seriously have a requirements put on them that restrict them from performing u/s this early as their lack of education in what they're doing creates worry for no reason. I'm so sorry that this has robbed you of the joy of this experience. I know your fear all too well and all that gets me through the fearful first weeks is refusing to allow that fear to take away my happiness. Good luck to you and I hope your next u/s sets your mind at ease.
