Question

Is it completely ridiculous for me to be trying for a baby when I weigh 200lbs?

I've gotten the ok from my doctor. I am muscular and I work out. I put on about 15 from birth control and it just refuses to come off. Should I wait and lose or just go for it?

Hi, well it really depends on how tall you are and what your BMI is. 200 lbs makes no sense unless one knows how tall you are. But either way no harm in trying, especially if the doc said it was ok. And keep working out, the closer your weight it to your BMI the better it is for you to have an easy pregnancy. Good luck!

No it's not completely ridiculous. There are so many other important factors to consider before trying to conceive than just your weight. A person can be overweight but that doesn't automatically make them unhealthy if they're active, eat a relatively healthy diet, and have good stress management. On the flip side a person can be within a normal weight range but be unhealthy if they smoke, drink, eat like crap, not exercise, and have a poor handle on managing stress. There's so many factors that go into good health. If you've spoken to your doctor and you've gotten the ok then I would think that's the most important thing. A healthy weight is important but it's not everything. I would continue your efforts in weight loss (and good for you for trying btw!), try to eat a balanced diet, take your prenatals, ditch any unhealthy habits like drinking alcohol or smoking, and try to manage stress as best you can. You need to be the healthiest you, but you don't have to be perfect.

If you want to shift that stubborn 15 I would recommend the keto diet. I was working out a lot but my weight hit a plateau at 72kg, I switched to this diet (it's low carb, high fat, high protein in case you're not familiar with it) and got down to 65kg in less than a month. Great for fast results naturally (no need to waste money on gimmicky products). All the best.

If doc okays it then got for it! I have a similar problem only on the flip side - I'm 45, 5'4" and barely 100lbs. definitely underweight - my bmi is under 18. Not good for ttc, but my doc gave the okay, so while I am still trying to gain weight, I'm not letting that stop me from ttc. You shouldn't either. Good luck!
