Question

Anyone with low progesterone levels?

Hi, I got some preliminary blood work done by my doctor. The fsh, lh and prolactin have come back in the normal range. The progesterone was supposed to be 21 day progesterone, but since my cycle is usually 31 days I took it on day 24. The reading was 15 nmol/L with result as Low luteal level. My period actually came only on day 32 and I think I ovulated on day 19. I am confused as to whether the progesterone peaks at 7 dpo and that is when the test should be taken or 7 days before the next period. I think my luteal phase is 12 days and not 14 like the average. Also can anything be done to increase progesterone levels till I get seen by a specialist? Any advice is welcome!

Hi,
I am led to believe that aslong as your luteal phase is over 11, your in the normal range. doing the 21 day progesterone test i believe is always going to change month per month as even if you have regular periods, like me, i wont necessarily ovulate on the same CD each month so my progesterone level is going to be very different each month. i have been hassling my doctor for progesterone blood tests for months after having 2 mc in the last 5 months and i spoke to a practitioner on the phone last week who advised that everything is perfectly normal as im in the normal range (although the lower end of the normal range but thats still considered normal) and as i have carried a healthy baby before i can have another. she says further tests can have the opposite effect and stress you out whlist your going through them and waiting for results and its better to relax and enjoy the sex and ttc. the 21 day progesterone test will only give you true results if you have a regular 28 day

sorry, ran out of characters. so the 21 day progesterone test will only give you true results if you have a regular 28 day cycle, if you are irregular or have a longer cycle you need to do the test 7 days before when your due to come on, not necessarily on CD 21, as you peak 7 days before. if you are unsure when you next coming on i would sort out the irregular periods first. do the 21 day blood test 7 days BEFORE your next period is due. I have started to try and improve my progesterone levels through healthy eating, avoid eating foods that contain estrogen, eat healthily and relax. your Dr can prescribe you suppositories or tablets. please relax, having a lower progesterone doesn't mean you wont fall pregnant. Good luck my friend.x

Hi, thanks for your long and detailed reply! I have started on clomid this cycle and hoping it brings success soon. The doc believes that putting me on clomid will make me ovulate properly and that in turn will cause my progesterone levels to rise naturally. They will be monitoring my progesterone levels to ensure that it is rising as expected. Fingers crossed! :)
