Question

Is there a magic trick to minimizing the weight gain while on progesterone?

I am really packing on some gross belly flab that I can only imagine is due to my progesterone supplement. I am almost 7 weeks pg and already have gained 4 lbs despite nausea and food aversions. I've been sensible with my food choices, though not perfect. It's getting to where carbs are the only thing I can keep down. Have I any defense against this horrible side effect? I'm already in maternity pants and have to keep this pregnancy a secret until October. Naturally, the health of my baby is priority #1, but keeping weight gain reasonable is best for us both. I honestly went into the pregnancy about 25 lbs overweight, due in part to being on progesterone. Any helpful tips at all?

I have also gained weight since using progesterone. Unfortunately, I haven't figured out the answer but am interested in hearing what people have to say, so I'm following your post!

I have not gained weight since using progesterone. I am focusing on eliminating wheat and sugar, drinking lots of pure freshly pressed vegetable juices, eating lots of berries, kale, and preparing smoothies from green powders bought at the healthfoodstore. Low fat meats, nuts, eggs make up my protein. I am not exercising but am active throughout the day. Also limiting dairy as it makes me feel bloated.

Honestly, I'm able to eat very little right now, so I really don't think it's diet. I was doing well with green smoothies, both with fresh kale or spinach and with green powders, but like a brick wall, it just hit me that I cant stomach them right now. I'd just bought a big tub of Amazing Grass, too :-/. I can do apples by themselves, broth or really smooth soups, some cereals. It's actually better in the morning, but I can't stomach eggs right now (unfortunately, since I own hens). I did have an ice cream today, but did some light housework like sweeping my back deck. Not enough to burn off an ice cream, but better than nothing haha. All I can do is eat what my stomach allows and try to make up for it when the m/s subsides. I think I only have to take the supplement through the first trimester. It just sucks to be able to eat so very little, but still have to worry about weight gain. Vegetable juice does sound good, though, so I might have to try that and see how it goes!

Maybe it's bc your pregnant? Some people show sooner. I'm 7 weeks on Tuesday and I seriously look like I'm 3 months already. I'm also on progesterone but I don't think it's bc of that. I think it's bc of being pregnant.

I can't really chalk it up to pregnancy as the excess is all over my belly and not just lower, plus my legs and hips are affected, too. I had extreme bloating with my last two pregnancies, but this really doesn't seem like bloat.

I go for a gentle 30 minute stroll several times a week. By gentle, I mean EVERYONE on the trail passes me by (old people with canes, kids, etc). I'm not sure if it helps control weight gain or not, but that plus a very nutritious diet seemed to have helped me control weight gain. You might check with your doctor to see when/if they recommend walking (how much, how often) at this point. I recall my acupuncturist having me wait a little while before I could start.
