Period Trigger Pills?

After a D&C on June 23rd I was told my period would probably be late or have to be triggered. I thought my doctor said I would need a trigger shot, but apparently she just said it would need triggered. I was wondering if any of you could share your experience with progesterone pills to trigger a period? I will be taking a 10 day course and was told my period would hopefully start after those 10 days.
If you took a 10 day course, did your period come after the 10 days, sooner, or much later? Or maybe did it not work at all?
