TTC then found out I have Pcos now referred to specialist, wondered what happens in 1st appointment?
We have been trying to conceive for a year but my periods stopped completely at the beginning of the year so I went to my GP. After blood tests and internal scans I have been told I have PCOS and referred to gynae. My GP wouldn't give me any information on what the options are and told me that I needed to speak to the gynae. My GP did send me for loads of blood tests to determine by cycle. As my cycle is about 130 days so far the tests didn't show anything new.
Anyway I would really like to know if anyone else was already diagnosed with PCOS before they saw a gynae and what happened in there first appointment? I am really worried that they will want to do all the tests again, and that I will have another four months of testing to be told the same thing again. The last few months have been really stressful because I am being given no information and have to 'google' to find out my options. I really hope that at this appointment things can move forward.

My dr told me i had pcos after an ultrasound but my gyne said it wasnt, i dont have any other symptoms other than the lack of ovulation and my cycle once a year.
Do you have any other symptoms of pcos like the weight trouble and excesive body hair? (all the women on dads side of the family have pcos amd that is their symptoms)
Hope you get your diagnosis soon and hopefully its just an irregular cycle xxxx

Hi, I was diagnosed with pcos in May and it broke me as been trying for a year with only 2 periods! Straight away from the appoint I was put on provera to induce a period which it did and I am now on my first round of clomid, not sure if I've ovulated yet, have an appoint Monday. But in answer to your question it was obviously all very fast! However I am aware that all areas of the country are different as I work in healthcare , I am in Dorset. I'm pretty sure they will just provide treatment now a diagnosis has been made (hopefully) best of luck I hope it goes well :)

Hi, thanks for your comments, it's the waiting in limbo that is driving me up the wall. Hopefully once I have seen the specialist we can start moving forward with the process. Good luck with the clomid, I have heard a lot of good success stories from people who have used clomid!

I was diagnosed with PCOS and put on Metformin by my family doctor then was referred to my obgyn for further treatment. There was no need to do any further testing as I had already had blood work and ultrasounds done and I had my diagnosis. My first appointment with my obgyn was straightforward; I had my height, weight, and blood pressure taken (standard at every appointment), then I had a pap done. After that my husband and I met with the obgyn in his office to discuss treatment. I had a really good idea ahead of time of what the first line treatment would be including the risks, benefits, side effects etc so it was all really straightforward. I was given a prescription of birth control to take for two weeks to induce a period followed by unmonitored clomid 50mg cd3-7. The whole process was really simple, quick, a straightforward, and I think a lot of that was because I was vocal about what I'd like done for treatment and didn't play the lets-wait-and-see game.
