PCOS and IUI- Follicle count??
Hi ladies,
I'm 4 days into my first IUI cycle with follistim 150. My RE wanted to start me on 300, but I thought it was too high and begged him to lower the dose. So- today I had my first ultrasound after 3 days of meds, and I have SO MANY follicles growing already! I had 4 that were 12 on my left ovary (with a bunch 10 or less, too many to count), and 4 on my right ovary that were between 12-13 (with a bunch less than 10, again too many to count). I panicked and my RE said, "you can always cancel the cycle" as if it were no big deal!
Does anyone have experience with responding so quickly to follistim, but then having the follicles slow down and only getting a few by trigger time?? I really, really don't want to waste this cycle. I started ganirelix today, so hoping that will help.

It sounds as if he has given you a high enough dose to have IVF, not an IUI!!! Did the RE give you any advice on over stimulation? When I was going to have IUI the dosage was only 75 for about 5 days and I was told that any more than three follicles and the cycle would be cancelled (but that's the medical rule in the UK to reduce the risk of twin/triplet births).
Are you still taking the follitism or have you been told to stop and let the follicles develop naturally from now until trigger? It really sounds as if you don't need any more stims. I'm not a doctor though so it may be worth contacting the clinic and talking through your concerns. Make sure you drink plenty of water and some Gatorade (you need at least 4-5 pints of liquids a day with that many follies).

I thought my dose was high, especially since I have PCOS and my antral follicle count is always around 30! They gave me a packet that mentioned OHSS, but when I asked about it my RE told me "I've only had one case in 5 years" and not to worry. He actually said he wanted me to have 6-10 mature follicles before IUI! That is INSANE! I told him I will not trigger with any more than 4.
They will call me this afternoon with my estrogen results and let me know if I should reduce my follistim or what. I don't know much about stopping stims this soon, but I feel like it would make them less mature? :(. Sucks that this is all trial and error. Thanks so much for the liquid idea- nobody mentioned that and it makes perfect sense. I barely drink anything!! Eek!!
