Question

Femera or clomid ? Pros and cons ?

I have my first appt with a Fertility specialist June 30 and want to do some research on these incase he decides to put me on medication. I am leaning more twds Femera..and study prove it doesn't cause cysts or uterine wall thinning...and less side effects all together.

Thoughts???

I've heard Femara is better for the exact reasons u mentioned, but most doctors start with clomid. Ovulation induction is still an off label use for femera and clomid is the typical go to.

IMO Femara is preferred over clomid but not every dr will prescribe it. I used it for many months and never had any issues and no thinning of the endo lining, however I did end up with cysts at times. Any fertility medication comes with the risk of cyst formation, unfortunately.

Also the fertility doctor throw a lot at you. Mine wanted me to do ivf well it 20000 a month. Then he wanted me to do iui with injections my insurance pays for iui but not injections 2000 bucks a month. So we are doing femera which my insurance covered nc it is labeled as a beast cancer drug 2 bucks and it working so far. The trigger shot and progesterone were 133

So pretty much out of pocket with insurance that covers iui is about 400 with Co pays and medicine depending on the medicine. That after deductible and the hysterscopy/ tubal check done as a surgery. Hope this helps I was shocked lol. He also had put me on birth control through all the testing.

Oh wow!!!! I had no idea you gta get all kinds of tests done before they even decide what meds to put u on... We did our second semen analysis 1 week ago so they would have that plus all my progesterone blood work and my pelvic transvaginal US. But I'm sure they will want my spouse to do the advanced SA...as his motility, volume are super low. I feel like its gna be a process but Im glad I got all your input and suggestions :) I'm leaning more twds Femera... And I yah I did read somewhere they usually they start u on clomid...I hope I have a choice in this!! Lol. And I'm very very afraid to go back on that damn pill! So I'm hoping it does not come to that. Also is anyone from Ontario Canada an know the costs for an IUI??

It is a lot but hopefully worth it. Mt first appt I was at right time in cycle so that same day he did 6 vilest of blood and ultrasound and put me on birth Control. He test my blood for EVERYTHING lol. Hormones genetic test disease normal bw panel etc. Then he tested my husband twice and I had the hysterscopy done. Finally this week iui lol I can't wait so nervous. You definitely should ha e a say so. I did 5 rounds of clomid before seeing the fertility specialist. Of course he wanted me to do the injections but I couldn't afford it so he said let try femera. After 6 years I am just ready for something to work lol. Fingers crossed this is my week :) good luck at your appointment, let me know how it goes.

Ckry28 I am wishing you so much luck on your IUI!!!!! I wish I was already there! Lol..I'm inpatient.and rightfully so! I'll be on CD 20 when I go to my first appt and its 1.5 hrs away so I am hoping that we can get as much testing done as possible ! Even if we can test my spouse as he will be there as well. He's military so the fact that he can even make it to this is a shocker! So I'm def gna ask to do as much as we can while we are there. What are the injections ur mentioning?? Is it the same as trigger shot? I'm seriously reading up on stuff to expect on these appts but no idea what those are. I'm really leaning more twds Femera .,just hope they have a good plan gor us depending on what my spouses SA turns out to be,... I'll keep you updated !! Good luck on your IUI! Let me know how that goes!

Thanks you I am so nervous.
The injections are different hormones you give yourself a shot everyday I believe I never went to the training for them bc I knew I couldn't afford it. The trigger shot is just 1 it was 100 buck. I believe when my eggs are ready (hopefully Thursday) I take the shot to make them release (ovulate) and then the next 2 days I go for the iui. It is kind do of stressful bc I have to have my husband's sample at the hospital by 8am within an hour. Houston traffic at rush hour. My husband doesn't want to use the room they provide lol. After I drop off his sample I wait a few hours and go back for the iui. Depending on your fertility issues your treatment may be different.

We found out not only do I have pcos and don't ovulate but my husband has low morphology ; ( Apparently my daughter is a miracle bc the dr said on our own we have a 1 percent chance. It did take me almost 3 years to get pregnant with her lol. That was 9 years ago.Good thing though is
